Mindfulness, Meditation and Mantra
Saturday, December 7th 11-5
Karen “Karb” Bullard, RYT 500, YACEP
5.5 CE/YTT Hours. Offered In-Studio Only. $99
This workshop is open to yoga, meditation and mindfulness students and teachers. We’ll discuss the history of Mindfulness and how Jon Kabat-Zinn brought this practice to the West back in the 70’s for pain management in a hospital setting (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction or MBSR) and how it has grown to be found nearly everywhere these days (in education, sports, therapy….) and the term has become saturated and overused but truly has such depth and meaning. You will be introduced to simple practices you can incorporate in to your classes and daily life to stimulate sensory awareness and bring about further presence: mindful listening, mindful seeing, mindful eating…
While focusing on Meditation, we’ll take a more in depth look at different techniques including walking, seated and lying down meditation and will discuss different postures, styles and varieties. Finally, there will be an introduction to, and practice of, some of the 12 Traditional Meditation Practices, as well, including mantra.
Japa meditation is a meditative practice that involves repeating a mantra. It is a key component of yoga and other eastern practices. From chanting OM to the more developed Gayatri Mantra, ancient yogis to modern day practitioners have been using mantra as a wonderful way to help stay focused, present and awake. During our introduction to Mantra, we’ll both discuss and practice a variety of mantras and learn about their importance on the yogic path.
In addition to this workshop, we welcome, and encourage, you to expand your meditation training via SAYF platform’s 12 Traditional Yoga Meditation Practices Training at www.sayfyoga.com Successful completion of this online training, that includes satsang with Swami Omkarananda on Vedic Wisdom and Advaita Vedanta and 12 quizzes and practices, will provide you with an additional 12 hours YTT/CE and a Certificate of Completion.
